Okay!  First lesson in looking for a home is:

Open houses are not a good way to search for homes.

Why?

Several reasons.  First, even a home that has a "Sunday Open House" for the first time is usually at least 10 days on the market, because of the lead times needed to advertise in the newspaper.  Second, not every home is held open, and most homes are not held open more than once a month.

The most efficient way to search for a home is to sign up for my Des Moines Real Estate email notification program.  That way, you find out about homes as soon as they are listed.  However, I also know that some people do like to browse open houses while they are thinking about buying.  That's why I've added the links below to the three biggest real estate companies in town.  By clicking on these links, you'll be able to see which open houses are coming up!

Just a couple of things to think about:

Remember, I'm a real estate agent.  I get paid to help people buy and sell homes.  I'm not on a salary, I get paid ONLY when I help you buy or sell a home.  I provide a lot of free information on this website for the general public, so when you're at that perfect "open house", and you want to buy the home, call ME to represent you and to write the offer.  I'll be your Buyer Agent.  It's very common for one agent to represent the buyer, and another agent to represent the seller.  You can reach me at 515-633-8877.

The second thing to remember: One of the reasons why some people don't visit "open houses" is because it seems like when you walk in the door, the agent immediately starts bugging you to sign in, asking you all kinds of questions, etc., when all you want to do is look at the house, right?

There's an easy solution to that: Just tell them you are working with Mike Davis with Remax, and most agents will generally leave you alone after that.  In fact, most of my clients even hand my card to the agent as they walk in.  If you want some of my business cards for that purpose, contact me, include your postal address, and I'll put some business cards in the mail to you.
